Richard 'OG' Wells

Donation protected

Hello All,

I am raising funds for the actual burial of my father, my pops, my OG, Mr. Richard Wells. I have paid for the memorial service that will take place on 9/18/2023 at Inglewood Mortuary Cemetery. I am short on the funds to bury my father though. It pains me because my father held his sickness as a secret. I took him to the hospital (Marina Del Rey Cedar Sinai) seven weeks ago because he fell couldn't walk and I assumed he had a hip injury. He never came out of the hospital. The doctor informed me he was in stage 4 of liver cancer and I remember a ton of bricks hitting me when I heard that news. The Doctor game my dad days, maybe weeks to live. He died in a six weeks.
This is the first time I had to bury someone in my immediate family. My father was against cremation but his life insurance is short of the goal of the $13k it cost to bury someone at Inglewood Cemetery. My father was a beloved community member in the Crenshaw district. His street ministries impacted the displaced, gang members, street walkers and drug addicts in the area.
My father was born in Compton,CA in 1951. He attended Centennial High school and married my mother soon after graduation. My mom and dad had been married for 55 years and had 4 children. My father played bongo drums, Deejayed and was a student of the christian faith. He read the Bible everyday and the word was his rock. About 3 months ago he would tell me he felt his time was short but I would change the subject, try to uplift him and talk about how there was so much life left to live. He was hiding what he was dealing with like an OG would. He didn't want the pity party or the sympathy. I was was only here to help and would have tried my best if I had knew.
Below is a clip of my father from Nipsey Hussle's Marathon Clothing store Documentary. Nipsey Hussle and Sam were very close to my dad. He would to talk to them about being "with the Lord". They respected him so much they immortalized him in this clip.
No donation is too small as I am asking for all help in burying my pop. Thank you in advance. A share can help if you don't have the means at this time. Those who donate and want an Obituary I will try my best to get you one. Thank you all!!!
