The Slockbower family has lost our beloved patriarch, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, today on February 20, 2021.  Yet another casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic, our hearts are breaking over the passing of Richard Slockbower Jr.  He was predeceased by his parents Richard Sr. and Marian Courter Slockbower, 8 siblings, and one granddaughter, Amanda Thoenig. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Elaine; five children, Regina Thoenig, Richard Slockbower III, Robert J. Slockbower, Raina Mac-Lean, and Elaine (Frank) Henderson; twelve grandchildren, Tricia, Anthony, Matthew, Kendelle, Devin, Rachelle, Damon, Kai, Jennifer, Katelyn, Nicole, and Jonathan; and one great-granddaughter, Amelia; two brothers, Thomas and William Slockbower; and two sisters, Marion Hancock and Janice Eckel; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Before he passed, my dad shared with me his final thoughts:  the highlight of his life has been being a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather.  He was entirely dedicated to his family from beginning to the end.  He didn't drink or smoke; every inch of his character was the idea with which to set an example for the next generations.  He was our rock; the living embodiment of integrity.  His very nature was total devotion to his family, moral beyond reproach, and ethical nearly to a fault.
This was a man who hitchhiked 50 miles to work when he didn't have any other means of transportation, who would wear his shoes until the soles were practically gone before spending a dime on himself, and never pocketed a single penny more than what he was rightfully entitled to.  A great lover of animals, my dad personally rescued and raised abused dogs as our family pets.  A one-of-a-kind, the very model of graciousness and generosity; there will never be another like him.
Dad was still working full-time when the pandemic caused businesses to shut down last year.  Since then, he and Mom scraped by on Social Security and unemployment.  Now that he has passed, Mom is faced with extreme financial hardships without her partner and provider of over a half century.  This fundraiser is to cover funeral expenses.  After all that he has sacrificed for his family throughout his life, we want nothing more than to give him a loving celebration of his life with the dignity and grace that he deserves.
