If you are seeing this you probably know Richard Broad. You may not know that he was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. A cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells. Like most cancers it requires a series of difficult, exhausting and expensive treatments. In addition to the medical bills there are many related expenses, transportation, lodging, lost income, etc.
Richard is about to undergo a stem cell transplant and also has multiple other costly treatments. A single pill can cost as much $400.00.
Richard is married with two adopted teenage sons.
He would never ask for help himself so I am doing it for him.
I knew Richard when he was my soccer coach at George Mason University. He took that program from NAIA obscurity to the Elite Eight of the Division I NCAA Tournament in just a few short years.
He has touched the lives of all his players and countless others through his soccer camps and his involvement in the game in general. He loves to mentor young people. He was a successful coach and had success in other fields but they were not fields that generate great wealth.
If you played for Coach Broad, worked with him in any way, or maybe just knew him a little bit then you know he deserves your support during this difficult time. If you don't know him then take my word for it. He deserves your support. Here is how you can help:
1. Clink on the GoFundMe link and contribute what you can. It is easy and secure to do.
2. Reach out to Coach via phone, text, email, etc. to cheer him up, offer some words of support and see how you can help.
We do not ask this lightly. If you have been to a hospital lately it is not difficult for you to understand how expensive the treatments and related expenses are. This is not something Dick brought on by anything he did. It could happen to any of us.
We recently increased the goal due to two reasons:
-A greater understanding on our part that Multiple Myeloma requires ongoing treatment for the rest of Dick's life. His expenses are therefore even greater than we originally anticipated.
-Great support from Dick's network and so many in the network requesting we increase the goal
Please think about how you and your loved ones would feel if you were in Dick's place. Please click on the link below the photo and contribute what you can.
