Richard and Samantha Laney need our support!

I am asking for you all to strongly consider a donation to the Laney family. As many of you are aware, unfortunately at the beginning of September Samantha suffered a head injury resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury. She has been in the hospital ever since but by some miracle has been recuperating and is expected to make a full recovery in time. The amount of time varies with each individual case but it is expected to be quite a long road (likely months and possibly a year or more). She will be released at the end of the week to head home but will still need extensive help once she arrives there.

Your donations will go directly toward medical bills already incurred and the future costs of Samantha’s rehabilitation to ensure that she maintains a high level of care at home. They will also help the Laney family offset costs of living while Samantha has been out of work and Rich has been foregoing work to ensure his wife is getting the care she needs. Unfortunately, once Samantha is home, the insurance company is going to fall far short of covering all the care that Sam will still need for the foreseeable future. Your contributions are critical to ensuring that Samantha can get back to a normal life and hopefully sooner than later.

Unbelievably, insurance companies (not doctors), dictate patient care and their job is to maximize profits. Once they say they will no longer pay for a patient to remain at a facility, the patient is sent home. While Samantha is still very much in need of the rehabilitation she is currently receiving, she will be sent home days from now. The amount of home based care covered by insurance will be dramatically less than what she needs and is currently getting. It’s sad to say but only those with very deep pockets can afford top-notch health care services.

Since the accident, Rich has basically put his business on hold to be by Samantha’s side. Everyone that knows Rich knows what a generous person he is. He would do anything for his friends and family and in addition regularly donates his professional services in support of various fundraising efforts in his community. Samantha’s teaching profession is one of the most selfless of all occupations. She works tirelessly on her lesson plans, researching new teaching tools and taking as many continuing education classes as she can to be a top notch educator in the Millis school system. Together they have two beautiful children, Braeden and Brielle. This is a family deserving of our help.
