Richard Tomlinson, 65, died in a tragic UTV accident on July 22nd at approx 8:30pm in the Tibblefork area of American Fork Canyon, UT. He and his wife Collette had been enjoying the outdoors in the UTV (which Rich had received in payment for services provided). On their way down the canyon they followed a trail toward the main road which became terribly narrow and off-camber. Collette exited the vehicle to help guide Rich while he backed out of the area when the UTV began to slide off the trail and roll down the side of the mountain.
We have recently been informed by the company who recovered the UTV from the mountainside that this is the second time someone has died in similar situation at this exact location.
News Report of the Accident
Rich was the main support for their household and took care of all finances. He opened and operated a successful CPA practice and employed several people over the years. As he grew older some mental issues arose from PTSD brought on from childhood abuses. As this worsened, income depleted and some credit card use was increased for bill payments. With help from counselors and family, he was getting much better, back on track, and paying down debt.
Unfortunately Rich did not have life insurance or savings plans so we are organizing to provide support for funeral expenses, and some financial support to help Collette finish the remolding projects which Rich started 10yrs ago, and other preparations required in order to sell the home. Contributions from friends, family and caring individuals, will help to bridge the gap while we determine how to handle Rich’s business and month to month expenses.
Thank you all for your love and concerns,
Tomlinson and Loveless Families.
