My Wish: An All Terrain Wheelchair

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

Why is my wish an All Terrain Wheelchair or better known to be a personal mobility device? An All Terrain personal transportation system will allow me to not only return to an active life but also allow me to be more independent; a life that I once knew and that has so defined me. Being able to do so is of paramount importance to me, my children, my family and friends.

My medical issues began over thirty years ago as a result of sports injuries and spinal abnormalities resulting in nearly 30 operations. My mobility has been severely hampered since 2006 progressing from the use of a cane to now being, for the most part, wheelchair bound with very limited mobility.

Throughout my life, I have had the internal fortitude to rise above these challenges and not let my medical and mobility issues defeat me.

I remain upbeat and participate in life to the best that one can being confined to a manually pushed wheelchair that is only functional on smooth and hard surfaces. Just think of the simple activities of life that most people enjoy - walking on the beach, holding an umbrella, walking a dog, pushing a grocery cart or going to the lake to fish with their grandchildren. These are all basic activities that I cannot perform.

My athletic lifestyle began at an early age beginning in grammar school with organized sports and while in high school, I rose to become a star football player and my interest in sport activities expanded to include hiking, camping, climbing Mount Washington five times, white- water canoeing as well as becoming a ski instructor at Hunter Mountain.

The most difficult aspect of my disability is the impact that this has had on my family. As a father of six children and soon-to-be grandfather for the third time, I and my family have been denied the simple pleasure of having their father or grandfather fully participate with them in an active lifestyle.

This lifestyle has long been lost for me but now there is a new horizon open to those with a mobility disability to be more engaged in the activities of daily life. To participate in these activities requires a mobility device that can accommodate all terrain and allow me to be hands-free.

With recent advances in device technology, the Ogo is an all terrain, hands-free personal mobility device that will change my world. The Ogo will allow me to participate in activities either independently or with my family that are currently unachievable for me. I will be afforded the choice and freedom to be an active participant of life rather then an onlooker of life and maximize my ability to enjoy my family and grandchildren.

Below is the link to the Ogo All Terrain Personal Transportation System. By viewing the short videos, you will understand why I have commenced a fund raising campaign seeking donations for the Ogo.

I am seeking to raise $23,000 in total that will cover the basic cost of the Ogo of $16,995 and include known additional fees at this time of local taxes, Off- Road Kit, car lift to transport the Ogo, insurances, freight and custom fees.

I would like to sincerely thank those that have shown concern and compassion for me and this cause.

                                 Thank You
                          Richard Troiano
