I am humbled and honored that my film has moved on to Cannes and that my hard work, and the hard work of my mentors, has paid off.
"Evolved" was created during a chaotic and eye opening extra semester at Wash U. Overcommitted as I tend to be, I had all but given up on the idea of shooting anything for Campus Movie Fest. On a fleeting impulse, I decided I still had time to create something that wouldn't require a script or actors and worked on it for 14 consecutive hours on the Sunday before it was due.
The film was inspired by that underlying feeling of disconnection that arises when more people are looking down than around and I hope watching it leads viewers to do more of the latter.
Which I guess is ironic because you have to watch my film on the internet:
At Cannes, I would have the chance to attend world premiere screenings, network with professional filmmakers, and see a part of the world I've never been to. Attending the Cannes Film Festival would be a life changing experience that I would be privileged to take part in and I am requesting your help.
The festival runs from May 6 to May 20 and the cost of the program is $2900. I am hoping to raise the cost of the program, and an additional $1000 for the plane ticket to Nice. Payment of the program fee is due February 16th. As a recent college graduate currently working a service job, I cannot afford to raise this money in 17 days and my retired-but-still-working parents cannot afford to lend me it.
Any amount helps! I ask no more than if I were to ask you to buy my coffee tomorrow morning. For those that are able to donate, I will be sending post-cards from France. For those that aren’t able to donate today, don’t worry about it! You can still support the arts by watching more films!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can find my other work at thericardosolis.wix.com/work. I greatly appreciate your time in reading this and your support, monetary or otherwise!
