Hi, My Name, is Mike Bomboris and I am fundraising to raise money for Ric Bauman and his family.
Earlier this year in February, after some health symptoms/concerns, Ric was diagnosed with bladder cancer (Urothelial Carcinoma) which was considered stage 4 because it had metastasized to a lesion in his pelvic bone. March 6th Ric had surgery to remove a 7cm tumor out of his bladder and was hospitalized due to the pain from the lesion on his hip (pelvic bone), and immediately started radiation. The following week he finished his five radiation treatments and started chemotherapy every two weeks until May 22nd. Right after Chemo, Ric started immunotherapy infusions, every two weeks, and a clinical trial medication that he takes daily. Besides a few side effects from the trail medication, Ric was holding strong, staying positive, and keeping faith for remission. and adjusting to “normal” life again.
A couple of months ago Ric started experiencing back pain. They thought it was a pulled muscle. After it did not let up, an MRI was ordered to rule anything out. At that time, it came back as spinal stenosis- not fun but not the worst.
While waiting to get into the doctor at the Cleveland Clinic spine institute, Ric’s medical oncologist (Dr. Wee) delved deeper into previous films and had a feeling it was something else. Something more. On October 6th, a bone scan was completed, as well as two more MRIs scheduled for later this month. As Dr. Wee suspected, it shows spots of cancer above and below his T9 vertebrae and a few other spots, and that is where the severe pain is coming from. There are also signs of cancer in his left femur and a spot on his liver they had found during a CT scan. Dr. Wee brought Dr. Mian (radiation oncologist) back into the fight, along with him and Dr. Angelov (Neuro-oncologist).
We know radiation treatment is coming back, but what that looks like or if it is accompanied by any other treatment they will not know until new spine MRI and an MRI of the liver are done. Until then, Dr. Wee said “hang tight.”
During all this Ric has remained positive and staying strong, and has tried to continue his normal daily activities, including not missing work unless for medical appointments that he cannot schedule around work. Some days are better than others, some days the pain is just unbearable.
Ric and his world class trained medical doctors are remaining positive however the medical bills do not stop coming in with a lot more to be expected with this new turn of events, on top of having to miss work for treatments and appointment.
Ric and his family would greatly appreciate any and all positive thoughts and vibes!
