Ron's Traumatic Burn Recovery Fund

Greetings Everyone!
My name is David Kraai, proudly known as, Dad, to our first-born son, Ronald. Thursday morning my wife and I received that phone call no one ever wants to get: “Your son was in a terrible fire in his apartment and they are rushing him to the U of M Hospital Trauma Burn Center in Ann Arbor, MI." My wife and I rushed to the hospital where we found he had suffered 1st – 4th degree burns on his back, side, and left hand. I wasn’t even aware there were 4th degree burns. He suffered extensive burns over 15% of his body. Medical Dictionary.com lists 4th degree burns as: “a burn that extends deeply into the subcutaneous tissue, completely destroying the skin, subcutaneous fat, and underlying tendons, and sometimes involving muscle.” We are so grateful he is at the U of M hospital as their burn clinic is second to none!
What makes Ron so incredibly special is his selfless devotion to his family, friends, and work. I am told he called his work from the ambulance to say he wouldn’t be able to come to work for a while. Three of his supervisors drove from Lansing, MI. to Ann Arbor the next day to say they weren’t sure how they would get along without him. Our Son has worked for a Tri-County non-profit community mental health organization for the last fifteen years. They provide, among other things, direct care to adults with severe developmental disabilities. This care includes everything from cooking their meals, cleaning, bathing and personal care. Ron provides all these functions, and more, as well as being the patients advocate and facilitator when driving them to Doctor appointments and taking them to church each week. He has an incredible ability to be able to communicate with each patient to promote and encourage their self-worth, even when communication seems impossible. All of that to say, Ron is truly an extraordinary person with a servant’s heart for those around him, especially those with special needs.
Due to this horrific accident Ron will be out of work for an indeterminate period of time while he goes through Occupational Therapy and recovery. While his paychecks will stop, needless to say, his living expenses will continue. Ron’s car payment, rent, food, and all of life’s expenses will need to be met, but his ability to work is now on hold. Your immediate donations are greatly appreciated!
Ron has faced hardships before, like when he broke his back while in college, but this is one of those rare times when he could use a hand up.
