Helping Rhyme the Kitty
Donation protected
This is Rhyme, he is our fun loving, crazy, silly cat. We adopted him and his sister Reason two years ago, and have been giving them both all the love we can. He loves food, other animals, and strangely, being held like a baby. We adopted our fluffy friends from a great organization called VOKRA, the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association.
Since we adopted him, Rhyme has been in and out of the vet. It turns out he was born with a very unusual condition for cats, and it was only very recently we finally diagnosed it.
Rhyme has a "intra-hepatic porto-systemic shunt." What this means, is that he has a blood vessel inside his liver, that is not supposed to be there. The blood that travels to the liver to be cleaned and put back into his bloodstream, is partially re-circulated back into his body without being processed. This condition is characterized by a lack of energy, drooling, tremors, and tragically, a very short lifespan.
Right now we have barely stabilized his condition with 2 medicines, 3 times a day, along with a specialized diet. (No treats for him!)
We have finally found a surgeon who can preform an operation that will seal the shunt and give Rhyme the full kitty life he deserves. Unfortunately, the surgeon is located at the University of California Davis and we will have to transport Rhyme there in as much comfort and safety as possible. It will be quite the challenge for him, as his condition as well as his difficult experiences at the vet, have made him skittish around strangers.
We are asking for any help you can spare for Rhyme's surgery and recovery.
Even if you can't spare any monetary help, we, and our furry family would be so grateful if you could share or forward this page.
