Matthews road to recovery Kidney Cancer
Donation protected
On Monday, September 4th, my brother Matthew went to Rhode Island hospital for abdominal pain after he was not feeling right for a few day. He kept putting it off thinking he would feel better. They ran tests and after bloodwork and a CT scan they found a mass on his right kidney. Days following they ran more scans and tests and preformed a colonoscopy, where they removed some pre cancerous polyps. After seeing multiple doctors they diagnosed him with Renal Cell Carcinoma kidney cancer. due to the location and how deep it is in his kidney the surgery is not going to be an easy one. Two different specialist are going to operate on him at the same time do to the location in the kidney. Chemo and Radiation won't work on his type of cancer. Right now he's stage 1 and they are going to have to remove his Kidney but they won't know how deep it is in the kidney until they go in. if its deeper than what they diagnosed it will be stage 3 and he will need to start Immunotherapy right away and be out of work longer.
On Monday, December 11th he will go in for surgery unless they have a cancelation and can get him in sooner.
Matthew won't be able to financially provide for his family like he would like to specially after the costs of all the tests he's endured. Taking care of his wife and two boys is all that he worries about. He's got one of the biggest hearts and would do anything for anyone so asking for help isn't what he does. During this time, Matthew will be out of work. He will be in the hospital recovering for about a week, pending how well his body copes with the surgery and reacts to one kidney. Unfortunately, Matthew will have a lot of time on his hands, so any positive thoughts and texts to him would be a wonderful boost (the more inappropriate the content is, the better). There will also be an extended recovery time at home after the surgery. This financial strain will be felt, as I am sure many other people are feeling now during these uncertain times. If it is at all possible, a donation of any size would be so helpful, and our family would be forever grateful.
We would like to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation for all of the love and support we have received from our closest friends and family during this difficult time. We know we will get through this, together!
