Help me get the operation I desperately need.

Hi there, my name is kirk and hear is my story and why iv set up a go fund me to help me get a life changing operation I desperately need. Back in March 2020 I could only discribe it as pins and needles but all down one side of my body and face and I felt all hot and clamy, I felt my left side completely drop. I couldn't grip my left hand or walk properly. Everything after this was just a complete mind blank as I remembered being unwell but not what happened after, until I come round on a hospital ward in Bristol BRI, I was put on obs every hour and attached to various machines. This was so scary I didn't know what was going on.

I had two C.T scans which come back all clear, my bloods were all clear and normal, my obs were all at 99% and the doctors were more confused then I was. They thought I suffered nerve damage in my neck but I hadn't injured myself. Still no answers after two days and finally a consultant come round to talk and send me for an MRI scan. This is where it all got serious for me. I was told I suffered Multifocal cerebral infarct-right frontal and right parietal lesions.

I asked what's this and I was informed I had suffered a shower of strokes. That's when the emotions started, a stroke I said, am I going to be okay? They needed to do more test on me as I have been getting blood clots but unsure where from but the test would be at a later date due to the pandemic. So 6 days after being in hospital I was discharged to continue my recovery back at my mums house. This is now where things went from worse to even worse for me. I had the community physiotherapy come out to see me and because of the current pandemic and what was going on I was not allowed any one to one support and everyone had to stay in doors to isolate. I was given a few bits of paper to help with walking and was advised to look on YouTube for more training and speech therapy. My full story you can find in the link below on the different strokes website https://differentstrokes.co.uk/stories/kirks-story-stroke-at-31/

I have just been told recently after on going test I have a very large hole in my heart going from my left to right shunt and it needs closing, this is where I was clotting that caused me to have my strokes. I have been excepted funding but I have been placed on a extremely long waiting list and It could be up to 5 years before I have my operation. This come as a massive blow and shock as to me having a hole in my heart is scary and everyday I worry or any sort of pain or discomfort I worry I'm going to have another stroke. So I have done a bit of research and I have looked into going private at the spire in Bristol. I was given a guided price of the operation and it was £19,394 and that's not with any other tests or consultations transport there or any other additional cost. But I imagine after speaking to the spire it's around the 22k, So I'm looking to raise as much as I can to get me the operation I so desperately need and get my life back and a better future for myself, my sons and my family. When this go's out live and let's say if I get called up in a month, 2 months even a few years for my operation then what ever has been raised I will be donating it straight to Different strokes charity who are a charity who like myself focus on young stroke survivors and I want to help as many young survivors like myself get the help they need and any sort of money would help them so much. Thank you kindly for reading my story and thank you for your help and support and donations. Kirk Godbeer
