Rhu’s Boo-Boos

Donation protected
On 7/5/18, my dog and I were viciously attacked my an off leash dog belonging to one of our neighbors. I was alone other than the other dogs owner. it was some black lab that is notoriously agressive and the woman let it out of her fenced in yard. We already have to cross the street when it’s IN the fence because it has bitten Rhu through the fence once, and we crossed the street from then on. She had her dog out on the driveway and off leash, I called out to her to grab her agressive dog, she did not, and the dog zeroed in on us. It charged at us from across the street while snarling and barking at us. Stupidly I scooped my dog up and tried to turn to run and the dog was attacking us and I had to put barb on the ground and that dog wouldn’t let up and I stood there screaming to the owner to “GET YOUR F****** DOG” repeatedly between screaming bloody murder and the woman stood across the street saying “I don’t know what you want me to do” while not making any attempt to approach her dog, or even cross the street, and I stood in the middle of this. Luckily a flock of neighbors came out. One had a taser and thought it was me being attacked and he tased my dog a few times because he didn’t know what happened but wanted to save me. He was able to break the fight with the taser. Then my dog bolted home bleeding profusely. The owner of the dog proceeded to approach me as other neighbors were helping me up off the sidewalk, to yell at me because her dog got bit and had some blood on it. My dog was absolutely demolished by this dog. He has several drains in his side along with LOTS of stitches. We didn’t get him back from the ER Vet until 2:30 am and he was so disoriented all he could do was whimper and yelp all night so Matt stayed up with him reading him picture books. He pissed his bed and didn’t even notice and was in so much pain we couldn’t even clean him up

He was able to make it through the night and Matt and I took turns sleeping so that Rhu always had someone with him. His health was not improving so we had to bring him for inpatient treatment at the vet where they took additional X-rays and ran tests to ensure that he would make it through.

Eventually he was able to  come home to us. We picked him up from the vet and he was able to give us a little tail wag when he saw us which was SUCH a light in our darkness.

The woman who owned the attacking dog had her dog placed in quarantine through Animal Control because her dog bit me when trying to get to my dog. She did not apologize and has no intention of paying my or my dogs medical bills. After 3 days she made the decision to euthanize her dog due to her inability to pay for the mandatory 6 foot fence, muzzle, and bail.

While every part part of me wants to file the lawsuit against her, there is a small part of me that is going to show her some basic human decency and mercy. It was never her intention for this to happen. She gets to live my ultimate nightmare of this event; her dog had to die from this incident. She truly doesn’t have the money to keep her own dog alive.

We we have put all of our bills on credit cards so far, but the costs are just getting too high. Our dog is our entire life. Every day revolves around our dog and this event has truly traumatized my little family. The most important part of this is that our dog survived despite the odds. He is truly a priceless member of our family.

Right now, every single dollar helps. It is not easy to ask for money, and we wish we didn’t have to. We’re just trying to keep Rhu alive. He means the world to us and we want to make sure he gets to see his third birthday next week.

Please consider making a donation. We will be eternally grateful.

Id like to extend a huge thanks to our neighbors who came running when they heard a woman screaming. That alone makes me feel hopeful and grateful toward this community. Additionally I’d like to thank the team of veterinarians who worked round the clock to keep Rhu alive and stopped his bleeding. Without you, our little guy would have never stood a chance.
