Supporting the awareness of Cancer in young people.
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2363367117239206/
This December I will be cutting off my hair to increase the awareness of Cancer in young people and encourage people to get checked.
Alongside the cut I will be running a fundraiser for the Cancer Council Western Australia, who supported Mady through her journey.
**If you would like to CUT MY HAIR♂️ any donations $50 or more is the cost but I appreciate all support. If financial support is not an option I hope that people will donate their time, their own hair, blood or plasma or even old clothes**
A dear friend of mine, Mady, visited the doctor for an unrelated issues and it was discovered that she had early stages of cancerous growths on her ovary. Recently she has undergone chemotherapy as a preventative method to ensure that cancerous cells were removed from her body.
During this treatment, Mady lost her hair but never lost her positive attitude. Losing your hair can be a big change and can be challenging for a lot of young people. When losing your hair there can be a large identity change and Mady tells me that a wig was important to her so that she would be able to maintain privacy about her condition. She was able to decide who she shared that with and didn’t allow others to judge or make assumptions about what losing your hair was associated to. The idea behind me cutting my hair is that I will be able to donate this hair to Variety - the Children's Charity WA, to contribute for a wig for a child who has lost their hair from a medical condition.
It can take up to 20 hair donations to create a wig for one child so my contribution will be a small step to achieving this. I am asking for people to join me on Saturday 14th December to celebrate 1 year since Mady has completed her treatment and being cancer free and to cut my hair. If you aren’t able to financially donate please consider donating other things like your time, blood or plasma.
Remember that if you discover cancer early you increase the chances of successfully removing the risk.
Thanking you all kindly for all of your support. ♥
