Rhodri Leyshon Memorial Rugby
Donation protected
We are Rhodri Leyshon Memorial RFC and we intend to hold a joint armed forces and veteran Rugby Match in Memory of Lieutenant Rhodri “Rhod” Leyshon Royal Navy.
Rhod was a keen rugby player and proud Welshman who sadly lost his life last September at the age of 31 when he was forced to ditch the helicopter he was flying into the English Channel.
In his memory, a team formed of all his former colleagues, friends and teammates from his decade long service in the Royal Navy intend to hold an exhibition rugby match.
To that end, whilst the team intend to self fund several elements themselves, there is of course a plethora of costs we need to cover to ensure the events success and that is where we hope to fund some of the way with generous individual donations.
Donations would be used to aid funding match day costs such as medical cover, first aid / prep kits, referee fees, match playing kit, pitch hire, insurance as well as fund a memorial plaque at Rhod’s childhood rugby club and a bench at his local primary school, attended by his Niece and Nephew. We also intend to use the day as a fundraising opportunity to give back to those charities close to Rhod’s family’s hearts and once base cost are covered, focus will be moved to fundraising in support of Wales Air Ambulance.
The match is planned to coincide with the first anniversary of his passing in early September and is planned to take place at Arms Park, Cardiff.
If you would like to understand the circumstances surrounding Rhod’s tragic death, you can read more about him on the follow news link, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0r7e7q8qvo.amp.
