Rhodes Strays for the Puddings of Pefkos

Donation protected
As many of you know I have a deep passion for animals and when I’m in Greece much of my time is spent feeding stray cats. This is something I have done in every country I visit since I was a child.

When I visited Pefkos,Rhodes for the first time in May 2024 my heart was broken daily seeing our feline friends living on the streets relying on food from tourists. One in particular stole my heart. Our little Pudding. He was on his own living under rocks. I tried so hard to get him the help he needed. Sadly no one got back to me so I had to go home in the hope I would see him when I returned and try again.

I returned a few months later and looked everywhere for our precious Pudding and sadly had no luck. As always other cats found me and I fed and watered the ones I passed. One night by some twist of fate a grey and white cat I had seen on my previous visit(at a completely different location) turned up at my balcony door. I had seen her(turned out to be him) beside Pudding before in a very sorry state. I presumed it was Pudding’s Mum. His condition has worsened and he was just bones. Struggling to eat.

Someone from a local group put me in touch with Rhodes Strays and they quickly got back to me. They offered to send out a volunteer to trap him and get him to the vets. The next day we caught the poor boy and sadly the next day I received the news he had to be put to sleep as this was the kindest thing for him. I had named Ragnar. A strong name for a strong boy who had had to be strong his whole life. I paid for the vets bill as it was the last act of kindness I could do for him.

This amazing charity could not survive without donations. They had a winter feeding programme and also neuter numerous strays every year so kittens don’t have to struggle to survive and mothers don’t have to go through pregnancy on the streets.

It costs roughly £40 to neuter a cat so any small donation makes a huge difference!

I know many of you feel the same pain and empathy I do when you see street cats on your holiday and with a small donation you will know you have helped massively.

Thank you to you all.
Your crazy cat lady.
