Hi, I’m Laura, a wildlife documentary production student and a qualified FGASA Field Guide Level 1, as well as an apprentice trails guide. With years of hands-on experience working with wildlife and volunteering in Southern Africa—across Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa—I’m passionate about conservation and wildlife protection.

To complete my Master’s degree, I need to film a 12-minute wildlife documentary. I’ve chosen to focus on an incredibly important topic: rhino protection at Selati Game Reserve in South Afrika. The reserve has been using rhino dehorning as a strategy for years, but now they are pioneering a new approach with ankle collars with GPS and AI technology—a technique never before used in the Lowveld of South Africa. This innovative method could change the future of rhino conservation, and I want to document it to raise awareness and contribute to the protection of these magnificent creatures.

South Africa is home to the world’s largest populations of black and white rhinos, but both species are in crisis. Poaching for rhino horn continues, driven by illegal wildlife trade and organized crime. Despite conservation efforts, 420 rhinos in 2024 were poached in South Africa in 2024.

To make this documentary a reality, I’m seeking support to cover the costs of equipment, travel, and production. I will spend three weeks at Selati Game Reserve, from mid-May to early June 2025, capturing the incredible work being done by the Selati Wilderness Foundation and the whole team of Selati to protect rhinos in the wild.
