My name is Alexandra Whyte, and I am writing in memory of my beloved sister, Rhiannon Skye Whyte, who was tragically taken from us at just 27 years old.
On Sunday, 20th October 2024, Rhiannon finished her shift and, as she often did, headed home to our mum in Walsall. She was chatting with her best friend over the phone, catching up on life, when she was suddenly and brutally attacked. The assault left her with multiple injuries, including a severe brain injury.
Despite the heroic efforts of bystanders, the swift response from police and paramedics, and the dedicated care from the medical team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Rhiannon passed away on 23rd October, surrounded by her loved ones.
In the wake of this tragedy, we are raising funds to honour Rhiannon's memory and support the now 6 year old son she has left behind, who I am raising.
There is almost no support for children left behind after such tragedy. No mental health support, no financial support, no therapy. The children are often just forgotten by every agency and they are expected to just “cope”. He doesn’t deserve to be forgotten
Breaking the news to a child of only 5 years old that his mother would never be able to come home will haunt me for the rest of my life. But it is my mission to be the best “mother” to him and raise him in Rhiannon’s honour the way she would have always wanted.
Our family is grieving, but we are united in carrying Rhiannon’s spirit forward.
