SoundUp Arts specialises in interactive music workshops, concerts and choirs which are accessible and engaging for people living with dementia. Being involved in regular participatory music and singing brings a host of benefits to people living with dementia; as music is proven to increase communication, social connection, confidence, expression, identity and selfhood, all of which have a valuable impact on wellbeing.
We work with early career musicians, supporting them in creating wonderful work with people living with dementia. All our SoundUp Artists are specially trained to bring participatory music to people living with dementia. We believe in developing the skills and experience of early-career musicians in specialised dementia work. Music has become an essential and valuable element of dementia care, we know that engaging the next generation of musicians in this work will have far reaching impacts on the future of the dementia care sector for the better. We are fortunate to have a collective of talented SoundUp Artists who we support and employ. Covid-19 has had an impact on the work and lives of many artists, and it is for this reason that our fundraising efforts not only go towards our projects for people living with dementia, but fund the valuable work of our musicians.
This fundraiser is of dual benefit- your donation will enable us to continue to support our wonderful musicians, and directly contribute to the continuation of our work with people living with dementia.
Currently, we are able to work with our artists to provide interactive, digital music sessions to people living with dementia in lockdown. In response to the need of care homes during COVID-19 we have developed online music sessions, to enable carers and care-homes to facilitate high-quality interactive music with confidence. We have also been able to run social distanced concerts, Songs From The Street and with funding we will be able to do even more of these wonderful events, bringing joy to people living with dementia and providing employment for our artists.
We want to thank you for your donation, you have made a big difference to our SoundUp Artists, and the provision of music in care homes. Thank you for helping us continue to reach people living with dementia despite COVID-19, providing access to high-quality, engaging and participatory music and creative activities, which has and proven impact on wellbeing, personhood, agency, mood and quality of life.
