Rhapsody Dance Project (RDP) was founded in May 2022 to fill a significant gap in the Kitchener-Waterloo arts community: providing a space for young adult and recreational dancers to continue creating, performing, and connecting after high school or post-secondary training. Our mission is to make dance accessible, collaborative, and sustainable for those who want to keep their passion alive without pursuing a professional career. Kitchener-Waterloo has a strong network of children’s dance studios but few opportunities for adults to train and perform in an inclusive, high-quality environment. We recognized this gap and built RDP as a platform where dancers could choreograph, rehearse, and perform together while maintaining balance with their work and studies.
Rhapsody Dance Project makes an impact by creating accessible, inclusive, and community-based dance opportunities for adults in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. We have seen firsthand how essential this space is for dancers who no longer have access to structured programs but still crave creative expression, social connection, and physical activity.
Dance provides profound mental, emotional, and physical benefits. For young adults transitioning out of intensive studio environments, or anyone returning to dance later in life, losing that community can be isolating. RDP fills this void by offering affordable drop-in classes and structured performance programs that keep people engaged in the arts.
Since 2022, RDP has reached over sixty participants and continues to grow annually. By providing professional-quality programming without professional-level costs, we’ve built an environment where creativity, confidence, and connection thrive. Our impact extends beyond the studio, strengthening Waterloo Region’s cultural landscape and encouraging lifelong participation in the arts.
At Rhapsody Dance Project, one of our core mandates is to keep programming financially accessible so that cost is never a barrier to participation. To achieve this, we organize fundraisers and sponsorship initiatives throughout the year, from community bake sales to merchandise sales, ensuring we can maintain affordable participation fees for all dancers. Funds from this GoFundMe page go directly back to the project to offset costume fees for dancers.
