Blake's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Blake Russell is a 24 year old electrician, originally from Grand Forks, British Columbia. Blake has always been one of the kindest, most generous and loving people many have had the pleasure of getting to know and spend time with. A person who is never without a smile on his face, Blake can always be counted on and will go out of his way to help the people around him. He is nothing but loyal and loving to his friends and family, as they are a huge part of his life every day. For his entire life, Blake has had a love for the outdoors. Mountain biking, hiking, and fishing are just a few of his many passions.
On August 28th Blake was in a car accident, which has left him with a spinal cord injury. He is currently in Vancouver General Hospital receiving treatment and then, when able, he will be going to GF Strong to start rehabilitation. His treatment and rehabilitation is expected to last approximately 8 months, possibly longer, depending on the circumstances. This is going to be a long journey for Blake and his family, one that will continue on long after his rehabilitation at GF Strong.
As the cost for accommodations in Vancouver is incredibly high, and the Russell family is going to be spending an extended period of time on the coast, part of the funds raised will help them with their living expenses during their stay in Vancouver.
A large number of spinal cord injuries also require the use of medical equipment and home modifications. The price of the equipment needed after spinal cord injuries can be extremely expensive, and due to the fact that Blake and his family will be unable to earn an income for an unknown period of time, we are reaching out to ask for help to alleviate some of the financial stress this accident has caused the Russell family. Some items that may need to be purchased to help provide Blake with the best quality of life for his future may include, but are certainly not limited to:
• Wheel chair
• Adjustable bed
• Wheelchair accessible bathtub
• Bath chair/Bath lift
• Grab bars
• Wheel chair ramp
• There is also the possibility of other home modifications with items such as the vanity in the bathroom needing to be lowered, widening doors to fit a wheelchair, a handheld shower wand, toilet lift, adjustments to counters and cupboards in the kitchen among many other things.
Every donation adds up and will help alleviate some of their financial needs. Please donate and share this with everyone to help out Blake and his family!
