In October I found out that I was sadly suffering an Ectopic Pregnancy.

An Ectopic Pregnancy is a life threatening condition that is the leading cause of death in early pregnancy. Put very simply, it means “an out-of-place pregnancy”. It affects 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and women who suffer have to face the physical trauma of major invasive treatment, their own mortality, the impact on their future fertility and the sad loss of losing their baby all very quickly.

We both knew very little about ectopic pregnancies — the symptoms, the risks, and the treatment options, but suddenly we were thrown into a whirlwind of urgent decisions about my care and what this would mean for our future.

I feel lucky in the sense that I had a successful Methotrexate injection and have saved my left tube for now. However, I mourn that the initial excitement of finding out we’re pregnant in the future won’t ever feel the same, knowing I now face a higher risk of this happening again.

To support with my physical and emotional recovery, I have decided to continue with my running events I booked prior to all of this. As many of you know, I’ve never been much of a runner, barely being able to run for a minute or two a year ago. But I now have a focus, to raise important funds for a Trust that have supported me and thousands of other women and families going through this confusing and upsetting experience.

The events I have booked so far are
  • Leeds Abbey Dash 10km - 30/11
  • It’s Grim up North 10 miles - 13/12
  • The York half marathon - 22/02/26
with many more hopefully to come.

I would really appreciate your support — not only in helping us raise the funds we need, but also in raising awareness about ectopic pregnancies. So many people don’t realise how dangerous and sudden they can be, and if sharing our story helps even one person, then something good can come from this very tough situation x
