Blaine’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hi there, my name’s Katrina and I am the daughter of Blaine. For those of you who know my father, you know he’s one of the most fun loving caring men there is. He’s always willing to help someone out, putting others first, and making sure others are taken care of. He’s the best Grampy and dad a girl could ask for.

On March 5th my father had to rush himself to the hospital as he fell very ill and noticed something was terribly wrong, his foot started to turn significantly purple and swollen.
Once he got to the hospital he was rushed in pretty quickly, multiple tests were done and the conclusion was he had a terrible infection called Staphylococcus aureus.
It is a bacteria commonly found on the skin and in the nose of about 30% of individuals. Most of the time staph does not cause any harm, but it can sometimes cause infections. In healthcare settings, infections can lead to serious or fatal outcomes.
This infection lead to 3 outcomes for my dad, 1) they amputate the visible parts of the foot where the infection was (having to come back for multiple surgeries as life went on)
2) they amputate his foot and leg to where they could confidently see the infection was not present
or 3) he had just two days left to live

It was very clear which outcome he would choose, and in doing so he was rushed into emergency surgery that night. They removed all the way up to 6 inches from his knee.

We are incredibly thankful that the surgery went very well and his recovery so far has been blowing the doctors out of the water. I can proudly say he has not let this life altering set back affect his spirits and positivity. He’s focused on healing and getting accustomed to his new life. He’s not allowing himself to feel down, he’s cracking jokes with the medical staff and overall happy he has his life and the support from family and friends through this.

Through this healing journey, our father will need a prosthetic leg to help him walk again one day, and because of this major surgery my dad won’t be able to return to work for the foreseeable future. We are asking for your support if you are able too, any donation large or small helps our father get that much closer to walking and the upcoming medical and life bills that will follow this.

We are beyond grateful to have our father here with us and equally as grateful for all of the love and support we have received. We truly cannot thank you all enough❤️Here’s to the road of recovery
