Hey all, Evan and Caitlyn here (Steve's children if you found yourself here through a friend). We appreciate anybody that takes the time to open this fundraiser link. Steve wasn't feeling well shortly after my (Evan's) wedding and was bedridden for a few days. After realizing it wasn't getting better he THANKFULLY listened to his body and went to Stonybrook Hospital. Shortly after he suffered from his first stroke. Over the next few weeks it was discovered he had a major heart infection in his aortic valve and he suffered from multiple more strokes. After battling day after day, open heart surgery, pneumonia, and more he is farther along in recovery than anyone could have even imagined. The strokes did unfortunately make him lose a lot of movement in the left side of his body, but he's working hard to relearn how to move, walk, talk, etc. It will be a very long road and we are extremely appreciative of all of your help. Whether it's a donation, or sharing this link we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Our Dad has been through a lot in his life, losing his brother and mother way too early and being an ARMY Veteran and suffering from PTSD. Anyone who knows our dad would agree he is the last person to ever deserve this, but sometimes things have to happen to move forward in life. We're just so grateful he's still with all of us.
A Message from Steve:
Many of you know me as Steve…but I am also “Dad” to many. This past November, I unexpectedly had 4 strokes, and an aortic valve replacement. I was intubated and on life support for weeks. Battled through multiple infections, aspiration pneumonia, and a torn aortic valve. I went through weeks of treatment and open heart surgery. Thanks to the amazing team at Stony Brook University, I am now recovering. I am beyond lucky to still be here and will be doing all within my power to get back to as much “normal” as my body will allow. I am asking for help for my increasing medical bills, and all that is to come. Myself, and my family appreciate anything you are able to do. Thank you so much.
Love, Steve.
