We the People holds a 21 year legacy at Northwest Guilford High School, with Mr. Ray Parrish as a constant leader and driving force for a class of high school seniors, year after year.
The course is a US Constitution based class, wherein students learn to present before esteemed judges in the style of a congressional hearing. The course culminates with a state competition, and subsequently a national competition, assuming the team wins at states. At the competitions, we will present papers to answer questions specific to topics concerning the US Constitution, and then answer follow up questions to justify our response, drawing from the knowledge we have accrued over the course of the year. Questions range from the International Declaration of Human Rights to the death penalty to the Articles of Confederation and back again, so students have acquired knowledge on a wide range of fields and look forward to showing it off.
Nationals takes place in Washington D.C., and in order to get there, the class is looking to fundraise enough for each student's way to be paid. It is crucial that all 33 students be present for the competition, where they will hopefully be representing the state of North Carolina. The class is divided into 6 "units", or smaller groups with specialized concentrations, and without each member, it would be almost impossible to compete successfully. The competition will be taking place April 23 -25, 2016.
This class is intended to be "the pursuit of truth in the company of friends and family". It is more than a mere high school class, and teaches students to be more than students, to make learning a personal responsibility rather than a required ritual.
We as a class will be extremely grateful for any donations, in whatever amount they may be, because we've worked for almost a year to produce something worthy of presentation before judges of high acclaim from across the United States. With your support, we hope to represent the state of North Carolina to the best of our abilities.

Thank you for any effort to make a difference in our lives.
***If we do not win at states, we will still be going to DC for an educational field trip. The state competition is March 18, 2016, so updates will be provided soon thereafter as to the outcome of the competition itself.
