My name is Ellie and I am currently a third year midwifery student.
I’m so excited to share that I’ve been offered the incredible opportunity to take part in a midwifery elective placement in Sri Lanka!
While Sri Lanka has made huge progress in maternal health, challenges remain. Many areas still face shortages of midwives, limited resources, and difficulties in accessing safe maternity care. During my placement, I’ll be working on busy maternity ward, supporting births, providing antenatal and postnatal care, and gaining valuable experience in managing complications with minimal equipment. These are skills that will help me become a more resilient, adaptable, and compassionate midwife.
I’m especially excited about the chance to learn from Sri Lankan midwives and mothers. Understanding different cultural approaches to pregnancy and postnatal care will broaden my perspective and strengthen my ability to provide respectful, woman-centred care to every family I support, there and in my years to come of being a midwife.
Supporting women as they bring new life into the world is truly an incredible privilege, one that I still can’t believe I get to do as a job! I believe that every woman and every baby deserves safe, high-quality maternity care—no matter where they live. This placement will help me grow not just as a midwife, but also as a person.
✨ How You Can Help ✨
This once-in-a-lifetime placement and is entirely self-funded, and I need support to cover flights, accommodation, insurance, vaccinations, and essential medical supplies. Every donation, no matter the size, will help me get one step closer to making this dream a reality.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. If you’re able to donate—or even share my page—it would mean the world to me. ❤️
