Cancer has affected me most of my life although I have been fortunate enough to not have cancer so many people close to me have died from cancer. Watching someone so close to you go from living a normal life to having that heartbreaking news that your life is going to change drastically is absolutely heartbreaking. Cancer treatment is rough it takes a massive toll on your body endless symptoms from being violently sick losing weight losing hair, lack of energy and even after all of this to many people still are unable to beat this horrible disease and die. It takes a lot of time, research and money to beat this. We can all do something to help donate today to help fund all this vital research.
There are so many types of cancers out there and they all have different symptoms.
At 17 I lived in Spain where I was a volunteer for a hospital who organised for young people to have an older buddy to help support them through their cancer journey I become a buddy for a young boy Marco he looked up to me like a big brother and I saw him as my little brother he was only 7 years old who had throat cancer. When he should have been starting school and playing outside he was confined to a hospital bed having chemotherapy. He lost his hair which he embraced like no other kid should have to. He lost his battle with cancer at just 8 years old. This helped shape me into becoming the parent I am even naming one of my sons after him. I would panick at every little illness wondering if that would be my boy taken from the world way to soon.
At 27 my step mum was diagnosed with breast cancer she was the only mum I knew after my real mum died when I was 1. My step mum was a strong woman who withstood many challenges throughout her life. Cancer was defiantly the hardest fight of all the one thing that helps define a woman is her breasts. In an attempt to save her life doctors removed one of her breasts. Watching the heartbreaking toll this had on her mental health was a battle for the family no woman should have to go through this. Unfortunately my step mum also died.
After I lost my step mum I met anouther woman Jan. She took me under her wing and treated me like a son. She took me in and looked after me and my kids when we needed her the most. Jan had the biggest personality and lit up any room. Jan was diagnosed with skin cancer that had spread to her liver. Jan never let this define her and always had a smile even when she knew she did not have long left.
My grandma also got diagnosed with breast cancer although she was a fantastic age she still lost her life to this horrible disease.
You would think all this was enough for anyone but cancer still wanted to affect my life.
My amazing girl Kika was not just a dog she was part of the family she brought so much happiness to me, my wife and my kids and anyone else who had the privilege to know her. She always had a wagging tail when we walked through the door. Kika suffered from mouth cancer and unfortunately had to be put to sleep after just 3 months after her diagnosis.
Cancer affects thousands of families every day.
This challange is close to my heart my brother is currently losing his best friend and mechanic to cancer.
My best friend is currently losing her mum to cancer.
I choose this challange as I wanted to raise awareness and funds to help with research into this horrible disease that affects millions of people on a daily basis more needs to be done to BEAT CANCER.
