House Fire

Donation protected
Hello, this is Rhett Geiger and I truly appreciate the time you are taking to read my family's story. I am the dad of Victoria Geiger, 18 and Nancy Beston, 21. Both girls are attending or about to attend college. I am also the husband of Peggy Geiger.

Our family has been struck with some bad luck recently.

On Monday, August 1, 2023 our home of 16 years burnt down. The house is unsalvageable and all of our belongings were lost. We have two dogs that managed to escape the house, with minor burns to their fur, but they lost all of their belongings as well. We lost all of our family keepsakes, photos, furniture, clothes and anything that wasn’t in our sheds.

The fire occurred while my wife, Peggy, was dealing with a mental health crisis. We are also struggling within our marriage so I moved out two months ago. I am staying at my parents house now without a car. Peggy recently totaled her car and also does not have a place to live. Our savings account is deplenished from trying to replace necessary items and taking care of the girls and the dogs.

I have also not been able to work for the past week. I am a Mason in the Local One Bricklayer’s Union and I was unable to work because of this past week's events.

My youngest daughter, Victoria, will begin school in two weeks to get her Bachelor's Degree in Sports Psychology at Montana State University in Bozeman. I am unable to cosign on a loan for her because of recent events, and so she will be paying for her first year out of pocket. She is currently crashing on her friend’s couch until she leaves for college.

My oldest daughter, Nancy, is going into her senior year of Journalism school at the University of Montana and will be a first generation graduate. She was in Missoula when the fire happened but traveled down and paid for a hotel in Great Falls to be alongside her family.

Both girls are struggling with the loss of their childhood home and need mental health assistance to cope with the loss.

This money will go towards a down payment on a new car, ensuring that both girls can afford college, medicine for our elderly dog and pet care, basic necessities and replacing belongings that we have lost. We also have to pay $3000+ to have the house removed from the property in the next 3 months.

We are also working on getting Peggy an in-patient mental health facility to help with her mental health crisis.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We are just a Montana family trying to make it despite the various chaotic things happening within our lives. If you have any questions please text me at [phone redacted]. Thank you once again.
