I'm once again asking my community for help.
In October 2023, I was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. I underwent surgery to remove the original mass and the surrounding lymph nodes. My surgeon ordered blood testing every three months to monitor the amount of tumor DNA in my blood. I started chemotherapy in January of 2024 and had my last chemo treatment in mid-June.
Until November of last year, my blood tests were coming back consistently with no tumor DNA found in my blood. My most recent blood test indicated that there is significantly more tumor DNA in my blood now than there was in November.
In order to monitor the growth/appearance of cancer, I have to have scans at least every three months. Each scan costs me $300 out of pocket alone because these scans are considered diagnostic and not a part of treatment. As a single parent, I do not have the disposable income to pay $300 every two to three months. I anticipate my medical expenses increasing over the next few months as we move forward from monitoring to treatment.
My next scan is March 4th, so I’ll have to pay another $300 in two days.
I appreciate any help we can muster moving forward, and as always, I appreciate all of you.
