Help For Daniella

Daniella is a sweet soul that truely loves her family and God.   She is the oldest of our 5 kids, 4 of which live with my wife and I.  Ella loves to sing, be around kids and spend time with family and friends.

Over Easter and during the week of spring break, Ella was visiting her mom a few hours south of where she lives with my wife and I.  On April 7, 2015 I received the call that no parent should ever have to receive.  The phone number was my ex-wife's but the voice on the other end was a male voice that sounded very concerned and trouble.  He told me that my sweet daughter Daniella, 15, was in a very serious car accident and was T-boned on the drivers side (Daniella was driving with her learners permit, under her mom's care).  When I asked how bad all he told me was they are cutting her out of the car with the jaws of life and my wife and I, and my parents need to get to South Bend ASAP.  My wife and I packed 1 over night bag and started the longest 2 hour drive that was ever made.

When we arrived Ella was getting a CT Scan to assess the internal damages.  We were first told that she had a broken pelvis but not sure about the other injuries.  That Tuesday evening, just 3 short days from Daniella's 16th birthday.... she started her first surgery.  (To clarify she hasn't needed any more yet, but we don't know what the future will hold.)

The amazing news is that she is still with us. This is easily an accident where the call could have held much graver news.  We have now found that she has a broken pelvis in 3 spots, a broken left clavicle and an broken left wrist. We are currently on day 3 and she is still not waking up but we are praying that this may be the day.  She has some hemmoraging on the brain and a fever due to all the invasive procedures.  The doctor thinks this is what may be keeping he asleep this long.  We are not sure the details of the  event but we are positive that being an inexperience driver caused the crash that nearly took our sweet daughter from us.

Now for the part I hate doing but here goes..  being a proud, christian family we realize that sometimes we need to reach out to those around us to help get us through the times that are the toughest. God tells us that He will never give us more that we can handle and I fully trust Him that is true.  Our realization is that we live on a very tight budget that leaves no room for emergencies. We currently follow Dave Ramey's plan to get our debt paid but that has left us with a very small emergency fund that will not cover her out of pocket expenses.  Seeing as Daniella is 2 hours from home and still in ICU there is going to be a lot of expenses for getting her back home to Grand Rapids and then months of rehab.  The insurances may or may not cover and we are working on that but I am fearful that we are so limited.  We now are asking God to send us angels.  Our prayers are not to make money off this accident but to be provided with enough to be sure we can get Ella everything she needs to be comfortable when she gets back home.

Thank you for even taking the time to read this and may God Bless and keep you.

In Christ's Holy Name,
Thom (Ella's dad)
