Devastating Theft
Donation protected
My name is Christopher Buehlman, and I’m fundraising to help my very good friends and fellow artists Sarah and Cyrus Rua recover from the theft of musical instruments and equipment that are crucial to their careers.
From Sarah:
“We found out today that someone broke into our house. My neighbors who water my plants discovered it. Whoever broke in seemed to know what they wanted. They kicked in the door, ransacked the studio, took all my harps, Cyrus' keyboards, the studio computer, mixing boards, possibly some of the hard drives, and they stole a cargo trailer. There might be more, but that's what I was able to asess on the phone with my neighbors. Obviously a police report has been filled and Cyrus is heading home as soon as possible to make a full inventory of what was taken and get things started with insurance. This was clearly done by someone who was prepared to move harps and knew what to look for in a recording studio. Unfortunately as a musician, my tour dates are public knowledge, so it's no secret that we're away from home right now. My address is a closely guarded secret, but obviously someone figured it out…I just feel sick. I'm honestly in shock.”
That’s all I know about the event, but I’d like to tell you a little bit about Sarah and Cyrus.
First of all, they are among the hardest working people on the Renaissance festival circuit, and they’ve got two young daughters whose precocity and intelligence won’t surprise any who know their parents.
Sarah plays harps at festivals and weddings, and, until a few years ago, Cyrus was a Carillon player, but the instrument he used had to go back to the donor who had lent it to his employer - tough luck for a young family. Since then they’ve been getting by, building a home, and just being a lovely and welcome part of the renaissance festival community. I love their company, whether singly or together, and I’m saddened and outraged to see them get dealt such a shitty hand.
Insurance may cover some of the loss, but anything we send their way will be put to good use and help this couple keep making music, providing for their girls, and living their dream.
Thanks so much!
