Professional Firefighters of Casa Grande, Local 3752 update from Firefighter Jonathan Reynolds:
An update for those who have been following and supporting. I’ll start by saying we’ve received support that is rare and hard to describe, support being an understatement. Our twin boys are fortunate to have so much lovin’ all around and we’re convinced that’s one of the biggest factors as to how they have overcome many early hurdles. Joseph and Wade, now almost 2 years old, have been resilient and continue to pass milestones. They both were born with Chronic Lung Disease and continue to see a pulmonologist regularly. Unfortunately, they still have to receive immunization shots monthly during RSV’s peak seasons. Joseph has been diagnosed with exotropia due to his now resolved brain bleed which he was born with. In simplest terms, it’s a form of lazy eye which requires him to be seen by an ophthalmologist on a regular basis. We continue to try to strengthen his weaker eye with different techniques that the specialists recommend. While we are happy to have seen improvement, it’s an ongoing challenge that doesn’t guarantee his eyes and vision will be 100% at some point in his life. Surgery is possible, but it is not recommended at this time. Joseph also continues to have regular check ups with his neurologist for his VP Shunt and we have been receiving positive news.
Due to being born early, both boys are expected to need speech therapy as they continue to develop. While these conditions are not ideal, we have plenty to be thankful as the boys continue to grow and impress medical staffs wherever they go. Hopefully this provides a decent glimpse as to the current place that the boys are right now in their young journey. We are beyond grateful to all those that have provided love and support in many ways, we would not be where we are emotionally and physically if it were not for all those that have been in our corner.
And some information from Local 3752 Member Services:
As many of you know, with our insurance, the max family out of pocket amount per year is over six thousand dollars. Because of the time of year and duration in the NICU, as well as surgery and complications, Wade and Joseph accrued the max out of pocket amount in 2021, 2022, and because of continuing medical care, also 2023. Twenty thousand dollars (out of pocket) is a daunting financial burden that we are attempting to continue to alleviate. Please join us in continued support for this amazing family.
