Reyes Family Strong : Help Us Fight COVID-19
Beschermde donatie
In November of 2020, our family received the worrisome news that our dear Ima (mom)/Lola (grandma) was in the hospital and in serious condition. Our 96 year old family matriarch, who was once so strong and lively, was now confined to a bed and fighting for her life. Though her body was already weak, she still had a strong heart through which she expressed “Lalabanan ko to!”, meaning I will fight this. And she did fight; for as long as she could. With her children coming back home again, each pouring their love and energy into caring for her, every day was spent making the most of the time they had with one another.
Then on December 17, 2020, our Ima/Lola passed away in the comforts of our family home, with her loved ones surrounding her in prayer. Just one week away from Christmas, we lost someone who we loved dearly. Already feeling like the weight of the world was on our shoulders, little did we know that this would only be the start to one of the toughest times we will ever face, physically, emotionally, and financially.
On what was supposed to be a peaceful Christmas Day, and while still mourning the loss of our Ima/Lola, four out of the eight Reyes siblings were rushed to a hospital due to extreme fatigue and difficulty breathing. Despite following safety guidelines, all four were diagnosed with pneumonia and three tested positive for COVID-19. And in the following days, majority of our family members were also confirmed to have contracted the virus.
What we once only read or heard about in the news is now happening within our family. Our days are now not only filled with grief, but also with distress, tears and fear of what may come. Uncertain about when we can all be together again, we face each day feeling the heaviness in our hearts as we pray for healing and strength for one another.
A total of eighteen family members are now battling against COVID-19. While some have mild to moderate symptoms and are under quarantine at home, there are 9 members of our family who are currently confined in hospital ICUs and are in critical condition. The treatments and procedures that our loved ones currently require include: antiviral medicine, antibiotic medicine, intubation, convalescent plasma (blood) transfusion, hemoperfusion, and lab imaging (x-rays, CT scans, etc.).
With many family members in the hospital, our hospital bills are multiplying daily and we are appealing for any help you are able to extend to us. Although we may not yet see the light at the end of the tunnel, we continue to stay strong and fight in this battle against COVID-19 as a family, supporting and taking care of one another just as our Ima/Lola would do.
With your generous support, we know that we can overcome anything together.
We are Reyes Family Strong.
