Rexy Boy
Hello, this is Rex, a 2-year-old Husky/Lab, needing help to get better.
On Oct 2, late at night, we heard him crying. For us, he is a very moody dog and loves to be outside. When we turned to call him, one of his eyes had gone white, and instantly the other as well.
We ran him to the ER where we got a glimpse of his tongue and found it to be purple. They took him in quickly and put him in an oxygen chamber as he was having difficulty. While we waited, they took x-rays of his stomach where they saw he had a lot of food.
We called Animal Poison Control and reported that he had gotten into the trash at home. We were told he had a severe Onion/Garlic toxicity.
They tried to do a stomach pump, which turned out unsuccessful due to him not chewing what he ingested and swallowed whole.
His eyes were checked while sedated, and it showed to be fatty lipids in his eyes, which would only need some drops.
By this point, we were about $2,000 in, and they told us it was advised that he get chest x-rays. We waited, and when the results came back, they told us he was fine.
We had to leave him overnight to be in observation. They told us he might need a transfusion as he would become anemic.
We decided to take him home Thursday as he didn't seem like himself, and we were $4,000 in at that moment.
They sent us home with nothing but eye drops. He felt better at home but was still not eating enough. His swelling completely went down.
We are now back at the vet due to his urine being a very dark brown. As they drew blood, it came out thick and very slowly. We are trying to get him to flush out the toxins and be back to his normal, happy, friendly, and loving Rexy boy.
We are asking for help to be able to cover his hospitalization for him to get better and come home. They let us know that he should have received a charcoal treatment to help with flushing out his system.
His treatment and stay are now most important for him to be on the right path. We ask for your help; anything helps us be able to cover his vet bills. He is currently at the Astoria Animal Hospital where he will be under care and observation for the next 4 days.
