On Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 at approximately 8:53 a.m., Rex passed away peacefully in his parents arms. He was 2 years and 12 days old.
A service to celebrate Rex's life will be on Sunday, October 30th at 9am at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Fayetteville, AR. All are welcome.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Franzen Family Fund (gofundme.com/rexfranzen). The Franzens will direct the funds to specific Sandhoff clinical trial research and college funds for Piper and Gus.
The family is grateful for your continued thoughts and prayers and for surrounding them with your love.

The Franzen Family is facing every parents' worst nightmare, the loss of their beautiful child. At around 8 months old, Amber and Craig began to notice that their healthy and active infant son Rex was not hitting his typical milestones. He had very poor muscle tone and wasn't crawling or sitting up unassisted, which would be typical for his age. Following months of doctors visits, Rex was diagnosed with Sandhoff disease - a rare genetic neurological disease that leads to progressive deterioration of mental and physical abilities. Rex’s condition is deteriorating quickly and Amber has taken a leave of absence from work to devote her time to caring for him. He is a fighter and continues to amaze everyone with his bravery and sweet disposition. While this isn't what they have been praying for, they know God is in control and has Rex in His hands. The family is forever grateful to all of you who have followed their journey and the incredible support and prayers that have been sent their way.
Rex has four brothers: Erick (20), Seth (16), Piper (6), and Gus (4). Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as well.
This page has been created by friends of the family to help fund a wish trip and miscellaneous medical costs for Rex. The trip will be dependent on Rex’s progress. Donations are sent directly to Amber and Craig.
