Hi, My name is Vessela and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Rex, the rescue terrier.
In 2020 Rex was pulled from a high kill shelter by a rescue organization. My family volunteered and drove Rex from the shelter to his fosters. He was so happy - jumping with joy and begging for belly rubs and he instantly stole our hearts. Rex' foster family fell in love with him and adopted him soon after.
The family noticed some behavior problems and hired a trainer to work with Rex - he was improving and doing well.
Sadly after 3 years, the family contacted me and told me they could no longer care for Rex.
The rescue organization found a new home for Rex and my husband Mark (who is also a dog-trainer) had several training sessions with him and his new adopter to help them adapt to each other. Rex was very uncomfortable around dogs and needed a confident leader to help him with his insecurities.
The new adopter had some issues with Rex in the beginning, but after 6 months together they were doing well.
Unfortunately there was an accident resulting in a bite to the owner after Rex was prescribed antidepressants by a vet.
The adopter felt he was lacking the experience a dog like Rex required and returned him back to the rescue.
The rescue enrolled Rex in a 3-month training program in Oregon where he performed very well.
A new adopter stepped up, she traveled to Oregon and worked with him and his trainers and ultimately took him home at the end of his training program.
I was in touch with Rex' adopter and hoped he finally found his perfect home.
Rex started to exhibit a new possessive behavior where he was "guarding" his adopter from everybody and the behavior was escalating...
His adopter couldn't deal with this behavior and made the hard decision to surrender him.
Rex is homeless again and has ran out of options...
I refused to give up on Rex and through an extensive research I found a solution for him, but with a hefty price tag.
Working Dogs of Nevada are a rescue and training facility, specializing in difficult dogs with behavior issues.
Their team of 20 experienced trainers work with every dog in their care for a minimum of 4-6 months before matching the dog with an appropriate adopter.
Each potential adopter is required to enter their 2-months training program, work with the dog, get to know him and learn how to address any triggers.
Only when the trainers feel completely confident with the potential adopter, the dog gets adopted to them.
They stand behind every dog in their program and welcome it back to their facility if an adoption falls through for any reason.
Accepting a dog into their care comes with a $5000 sponsorship.
I am starting this GoFund me in hopes to raise the funds needed to give Rex his last chance at a happy future.
The amount in this GoFund me includes all administrative fees and transportation cost from Los Angeles to Nevada.
Will you please help me achieve this goal and give Rex yet another chance?
Thank you for your kindness!!
