“If you are what you eat, what happens when you add something wild?” Mo Wilde
The Wildbiome Project looks at the effects of an all-wild diet on our bodies. I’ll be eating only wild food for one month + in the name of science. But science is expensive! I need your help to fund the many tests I’ll have to learn about the impact of this ancestral diet. Knowledge that will be made available to all.

I'm Maïa Sparrow. A nature-based facilitator / outdoor educator for over 10 years. I am passionate about supporting to connect to natural world, and through that to themselves and others.
For years I have enthusiastically introduced people to plants, fungi and animals. Now in Spring 2025 I'll be taking on the challenge of getting that bit closer to nature - eating an all-wild diet for at least a month to learn about the effects on the body.
The Project
During lockdown, forager Mo Wilde lived off wild food for a year. She experienced some amazing impacts on her health, which she covers in her award winning book: The Wilderness Cure.
In 2023, she gathered a small group of 24 professional foragers to discover what would happen if they tried it again with more people. With 12 eating wild for 1 month, and 12 for 3 months, again the results were very positive. You can find preliminary results here: https://monicawilde.com/the-wildbiome-project-results/
Now in Spring 2025, over 100 participants will repeat the study.
Why do you need money?
So if all the food is wild then it’s free, right? Unfortunately, doing a proper scientific study costs money! Scientists at Bradford University will analyse the results, which will published in an open-source peer reviewed journal. But the tests to gather the data cost money. The cost of testing for this round of the project will be £77,000+!
For my own tests, I need to raise:

£81.00 for 2x blood sugar tests
£111.76 for 2x blood sugar monitor
£10 for the app needed to track everything I eat

Any extra raised will go into a central pot to support others to participate and cover the overheads of the project.
