Some of you may know me as Julia, but my students know me as Ms. Tilden! I teach English I at a Title I School near downtown Dallas! A big part of my job is finding ways to motivate students through the toughest parts of the year, and October and November have proven to be particularly challenging for my students. The cooler weather, looming exams, and exhaustion from figuring out their first semester of high school were starting to take a toll.

To help keep themselves motivated, the kids decided that a Cane's party would be a worthy prize for the class that performed best on the midterm exam (relative to the class size) and had the most students reach their individual goals. My first period won the competition with 0% failing and 87% achieving their individual goals! All 30 kids did an incredible job and studied extremely hard in preparation for this test.
