Reward Fund for the Arrest of Abita Arsonist(s)
Donation protected
On April 7th, Good Friday, in the Town of Abita Springs, someone trespassed onto private property and burned a sign reading "Ban Hate Not Books." The sign supported our public libraries. Like the cross burnings of the past, this act seems to have been intended to create fear. What it has done is rallied our friends, family and the entire community to find whoever is responsible for this crime.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal Investigator is laser-focused on this crime and has an excellent conviction rate. However, he advises a healthy reward will encourage those with information to come forward more quickly.
Thank you to everyone who has offered their kind words of support. Your donation will fund the reward for information leading to a conviction.
The property owner has said in several interviews, "If a minor is responsible for this crime, please come forward with your parents. We are willing to work together with the authorities to stop this behavior without ruining a young person's life. All of our kids deserve to feel safe in our Town."
