At the end of May, Sam Miller-Hicok—our dear friend and talented Sous Chef—

fractured his pelvis in an accident.

The physical demands of a career as a chef are undeniable.

These unfortunate circumstances have taken Sam off the pass for at least a month,

during a lucrative time of the year.

Meanwhile, his partner Marlana has continued to show up each morning to fulfill her pastry and sea lettuce sourdough bread obligations for our small, close-knit team here at

The Harbor House in Elk, CA.
