Help Me Create an MMO Inspired by the Best of Old-School Online Worlds
Hi everyone,
I’m starting this GoFundMe to take the first real step toward creating an MMO inspired by the classic era of online games — the kind of worlds we had in titles like Final Fantasy XI, EverQuest, RuneScape (classic), and other old-school MMOs where exploration felt meaningful and the world actually felt alive.
I’m not trying to remake those games or copy them directly.
What I want to bring back is the feeling they gave us:
- When stepping into a new zone felt like entering the unknown
- When enemies were genuinely dangerous
- When you naturally teamed up with other players because it made the world feel better, not because a system forced you
- When community, adventure, and mystery were the heart of the experience
Modern MMOs offer convenience and accessibility, which is great — but somewhere along the way, a lot of that old-school soul disappeared. My goal is to build a world that blends the two:
The Vision:
- The atmosphere and sense of danger older MMOs were known for
- Modern quality-of-life so the game respects your time
- A world designed to be explored, not just rushed through
- Social systems that encourage interaction without making it mandatory
- A game where adventure actually feels like adventure again
Why I’m Asking for Support:
I’m just one person with the passion and dedication to bring this idea to life. I don’t have a dev team, artists, or the funding to create the early prototypes this project needs.
Your support will help cover things like:
- Hiring concept artists to build the world’s identity
- Contract developers to create early gameplay systems
- Software, tools, and essential resources
- Building a foundational prototype to attract more talent and future funding
This isn’t about promising a full MMO tomorrow.
This is about building the first real, concrete steps — a prototype, visible progress, and a clear direction that can grow into a full project.
Why This Matters:
Games like FFXI and other classics captured a type of magic that’s hard to find today. Not nostalgia — connection, danger, mystery, and community.
I believe there’s still room in the modern era for a game with that heart, but updated to fit today’s players and technology.
How You Can Help:
Any support — whether it’s donating, sharing, or simply spreading the word — helps push this dream toward becoming something real.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Thank you for believing in the idea.
And thank you for helping bring back the spirit of old-school MMOs in a fresh, modern way.
TL;DR:
I’m raising funds to start developing an MMO inspired by classic online games like FFXI, EverQuest, and other old-school MMOs — not to copy them, but to bring back that sense of danger, exploration, community, and adventure those worlds had.
The goal is to build a modern MMO with old-school heart: meaningful exploration, real risk, natural social interaction, and a world that actually feels alive, but with updated quality-of-life so it’s not frustrating.
Funds will go toward:
- Hiring concept artists
- Early prototype development
- Tools, software, and foundational resources
- Building something real enough to attract more help and future funding
Any donation or share helps me take the first real step toward making this dream a reality.
About the AI Images & Videos (Important Transparency):
I want to be completely upfront about something:
I will be using AI-generated images and short concept videos (like those made with Sora or image models) to help show the vibes and direction of the world I want to create.
This is ONLY for visualization.
Since I can’t draw and I don’t have a team yet, AI helps me communicate ideas that normally would require a full art department.
But here’s the part I want to make absolutely clear:
AI will NOT be used in the actual development of the game.
No AI-made:
- game art
- models
- music
- writing
- worldbuilding
- NPCs
- assets
All real game content will be created by human artists, human developers, and human writers as the project grows.
The AI visuals I show are just placeholders — a way to help people understand the direction and atmosphere I’m aiming for until I can hire real artists who can bring their own creativity and talent to the world.
I believe in supporting real creators, real talent, and real jobs.
AI is only helping me communicate the vision right now — nothing more.
TL;DR (AI Transparency):
I’ll be using AI images and short AI-generated videos only to help visualize the world and atmosphere I want to create, since I don’t have artists yet.
AI will NOT be used in the actual game.
All real art, writing, music, and assets will be made by human developers and artists once the team is built.
