Rebuilding One-Room School in Rural Nicaragua

Today, you have an opportunity to pay it forward. In Wiwili sector of rural Nicaragua, over 35 children embark on a journey each day, walking up to 4 miles under the hot sun or the chilly rain to reach a schoolhouse that barely stands.

During the summer, the sun shines through the old roof, lighting up the dirt floor inside. But when it starts to rain in the rainy season, things get tricky. Water leaks in, turning the floor into mud and making it a mission to keep their notebooks dry. Despite all that, for these kids, it’s just part of the fun of going to school. They are so happy, they smile, they make it a playground, with a sense of innocence, unaware of any alternative.

These children dream of a better life of opportunities beyond the fields. For many boys in rural areas, if they don’t study, most likely will never be able to have other opportunities more than just being a field worker. And for girls, they most likely will end up living in a shack and having kids when they are only 16 years old. We all know the power of education to transform lives. With sure luck I made it out and became an engineer, with your help others can see the path to a better future.

But dreams alone cannot rebuild a school. It takes action and it takes money. Together, we can rewrite the story for these children. We’ll rebuild their school, not just with bricks and mortar, but with the promise of hope and opportunity.
