Dumelang (hello) all! My name is Halle Preneta. I am a current Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) located at Swaneng Hill Senior Secondary School here in Serowe, Botswana. I am also studying for my masters in Library and Information Science and Children’s Literature at Simmons University.

As a library science masters student, I walked into my Fulbright knowing that I wanted to volunteer at a library somewhere in Serowe but did not know where to start. Luckily, the school I am located at, called Swaneng Hill Senior Secondary School, has a school library that I currently volunteer at. I shelve books, run statistics, catalog some items, and advertise the library to the students. Currently, many of the books at Swaneng’s library are old or damaged or both. Students do not have sufficient reading material at their reading level (there are many children’s books here even though these students are of high school junior/senior age). Books often go unreturned, causing the library to have to pay the cost of lost books. The library even once had WiFi but has since run out of money to pay the subscription for it every month, causing some students to be unable to study there.

So I am setting up this GoFundMe page in an efforts to raise enough money for Swaneng’s school library to obtain more books that will be at the students reading level, be able to cover the cost of lost or damaged books, and maybe even get their WiFi back to get their technology center up and running for students to use.
