Hi my name is Paul Reiter and I am fundraising for my upcoming stay in the hospital.
On July 20 2024 I admitted myself into the hospital because I was not able to breathe properly. That night I was rushed into surgery and had to have an emergency tracheotomy done so I could breath. At the same time they took samples to find out what was wrong. Turned out I had stage 4 larynx cancer/cancer in the voice box. I was informed that they could do a surgery to try and get rid of the cancer but it would involve loosing my larynx/voice box. I agreed.
September 15th 2024 I went in for my laryngectomy surgery witch turned out to be a success. They were able to get all the cancer out and I was lucky it was only in my larynx/voice box and had not spread any further. At the same time I was put on a feeding tube and was told in 3-4 months I would be able to eat solid foods again after radiation. During my radiation treatments the radiation caused my esofigus to completely collapse and I would not be able to eat solid foods without another surgery called Revision pharyngectomy, bilateral neck dissection/basically cut 5-6 inches of my esophagus out and rebuild in with tissue and other parts of my body but there was a waiting list to get the surgery.
For the last 18 months I have had to live with a feeding tube and nothing but a liquid diet no solid foods at all.
Well the time has come and the wait is over I now have a date for my Revision pharyngectomy, bilateral neck dissection surgery it is on February 23rd 2026. After my surgery I will be in hospital for 3-4 weeks and after getting out I will also have to take it easy for another month at witch time I will not be able to work.
I am asking for your help so I can recover and not have to worry about how I am going to take care of rent, bills, food, medications and anything else we may need during my time in hospital and recovery until I am able to go back to work.
Any help is appreciated and my family and I are very grateful for any help offered.
Thank you in advance and any funds that we do not need afterwards will be donated to Alberta Cancer foundation.
