Many of you remember Rev. Sandy Freeman-Loomis' beautiful smile, inspiring talks, workshops, laughter, and gifts she shared with our world as a Religious Science/New Thought Minister, Youth Group Advisor, spokesperson for MADD, actress, and woman extraordinaire. We Now have an opportunity to show we care and give back.
Rev Sandy was diagnosed with a rare disease 4 years ago, which is called progressive supra-nuclear palsy, atrophy of the mid-brain. The disease has progressed to where she is unable to articulate any words, only makes sounds, cannot walk, has impaired cognitive abilities, and needs total care of all her physical being. She spends a lot of her days sleeping, with about 10-12 hours in her transport chair to have meals and watch television. Rod has recently invited hospice palliative care to provide a Nurse Aid and RN twice a week to bathe her and check her vitals.
For the past 18 months, Rod has been hiring medical transport vans to take Sandy to her doctor appointments. It’s an expensive service, as well as inconvenient, having to wait an hour or more to be picked up for the return ride home. Rod is looking to purchase a used conversion van that would allow him to get Sandy out of the house to visit friends, have coffee, go to the movies, to the beauty salon, to church, to her medical appointments, and to give her a sense of normalcy. Rod has looked at a 2005 Ford Windstar, which is totally converted by a company called Mobility Works. The price is $14,000. When the van is no longer needed, it will be donated to a non-profit organization or individual.
Please give what you can, and pass this on to those who know Rev Sandy. Any amount received is very much appreciated!
