Dear Friends,
Please help me reunite a family across oceans and a decade. Their long awaited reunion was upended at the last minute after great expense and 10 years worth of savings lost. My sister is the teacher of a beautiful, sweet, little girl who just days ago, was so excited to take her first trip to the Philippines. This is a letter from my sister, Jill.
My name is Jill and Im a 3rd grade teacher in Pensacola, FL. I have an incredibly bright, sweet and tender-hearted girl in my class named Ashley. Ashley and her family were going to get to meet her grandmother for the very first time. Her mother Ana is one of the kindest, most generous women I have ever known. She moved to America ten years ago with her husband and has not been home to visit her family since. She is quick to send in supplies even for children who are not her own without being asked because her daughter tells her that kids need them. She chaperones our field trips, or make delicious lumpia to bring our class for lunch, and attends every school function, ( as well as her husband.)
Ana and her husband are parents to 2 darling daughters…Cheyenne in Kindergarten and my student Ashley in 3rd grade. The girls both earned medals in citizenship and honor roll for the year and light up everyone they encounter! Ana and her husband are very hard working. He is an Army veteran who works driving gravel trucks for construction and Ana works for a local lawn care company, mowing and raking lawns. They have been working so hard and saving money for so long to finally be able afford a trip to introduce their daughters to their family in the Philippines and were finally able after saving for ten years to plan the trip for her, and her two daughters. They were traveling with her cousin, her infant son ( also from the Philippines). The father was not making the trip.
Ashley and her family had been excited for months, one month purchasing the plane tickets on "CheapOAir", one month buying a suitcase, one month getting passports, and one month buying clothes for her family in the Philippines to wear, the trip was set and so were they. Finally it was May 22nd, the long awaited day had arrived. 2:00 am arrival time at the airport ( no one was sleeping from excitement anyway…) When they got to the airport and were checking in for their 3 am flight, they were met with heartbreak.
The airline informed them that the letter from Ashleys father, giving Ana permission for the children to leave the country, although signed and witnessed by a bank official, had not been notarized, and therefore they would not be allowed to travel. Frantically trying to find a solution at 2am in the morning with no help or answers. Since their tickets were purchased on a third party website, they were nonrefundable and unchangeable. After days and hours on the phone, they would get none of their money back that they had worked for years to save for their tickets and would not be allowed to reschedule
They are completely devastated and so is Ashleys grandmother who was waiting for them at the airport in Manila. Their grandmother in the Philippines had to travel days in advance, traveling by boat and bus to be there to greet them and meet her granddaughters for the first time, and see her daughter for the first time in a decade. She had to receive a phone call at the Manila airport that they would not be arriving that day and that the visit was cancelled. She spent the day in tears at the airport. I understand that she is inconsolable because now, who knows how long it will take this hard working family to save this sum of money again to be able to afford this trip. This is where you can help us. Help them not have to wait another 10 years to plan this trip again, you would make so many good people’s dreams come true! I would love to raise the $6000 dollars needed to reunite this lovely family. As hard as it is to give money to people you've never met, these are beautiful human beings and you know me or you know my brother Jon. Help us help them Thank you for taking the time to read this and your generosity. I know we can do this!
