Reunite Sisters: Amanda's Day Out
Donation protected
Yup, that's my sister. I'm in Michigan. She's in Arizona. Amanda has Down syndrome and is currently being held by her guardian (our older brother) who will not allow us our Girls' Day Out: A movie and pizza. Why? I won't go into the demonic, crazy-ass whackadoodle reasons this religious fanatic has for keeping us apart. I will just say, it is nuts.
I have to go to court, so I can take my sister to the movies.
Girls' Day Out for us is a long tradition, published in books like "Chicken Soup for the Sisters' Soul 2" and my own story, "Seven Days on Drummond" and the award winning, "The North Side of Down" which I co-wrote with Amanda. Yes, she is an award winning author.
Amanda has asked me repeatedly not to give up on her. She has her own lawyer, appointed by the court. So far so good.
I don't have the big bucks for a lawyer. It's just me. I am not rich like all my other siblings. But I have receipts! Tons of them! By Arizona law, the guardian has no cause to keep us apart.
I thought I would be able to appear virtually, due to distance. I have already met with this judge in two preliminaries, via zoom. But, lo and behold, she denied my motion to appear virtually at the actual May 30 hearing! I just got word yesterday. So now I have to travel.
Now, come to find out, I need a super special ID in order to fly! It just started May 7. Even though I was born right here, I can't travel without some kind of weird domestic passport. My DL is no longer good enough.
There isn't time for me to order this thing. I have to drive.
In the interest of all that is right, and just, and in the interest in people with disabilities having a voice, in the interest of sisters, in the interest of middle aged women for God's sake, please support us. Even if it's positive energy. And love.
I believe in the power of love!
