Hi, my name is Kathy, and I have 3 silver kelpies - Pinky, Joe, and Pixie. Since March 2020, when Covid crashed the world, stopped flights, and closed international borders, I have been stranded in the USA, even tho’ my home has been in Australia since 2011. I came to the USA to help my father with a crushed hip emergency, and never made it back to my home near Brisbane. All this time, my 3 dogs have stayed with a lovely kind-hearted pet-sitter since March 2020! Even though I’ve paid continued to pay rent, utilities, pet-sitting fees, bills, etc in Australia all this time and I still have a home of belongings still sitting there, due to Covid flight restrictions, I have not yet been able to return to Australia to pack my belongings or pick up my beloved dogs.
I have to give up my dream of living in Australia, but I cannot give up my dogs.
These amazing dogs are a family of their own — mom, dad, and baby Pixie. They have been together their whole lives and would be highly distressed if ever separated. It has been an extremely expensive battle to keep the dogs tended, sheltered, and off the streets for 1.5 years. But they are my dearest friends, and I cannot abandon them.
Covid-19 just isn’t going away — I myself have tested positive this week — and there is only one option left me for me. My ability to work has been severely compromised, and the only answer is to officially start a new life in the USA and to fly this little family of kelpies back to me. Australia has been wonderful, but being stranded overseas due to Covid limitations is not an option either.
Thankfully, international pet travel agencies are now operating and can assist me in getting this little kelpie family back with the person who loves them most. However, paying professionals to handle every single step of this process, including vaccinations, getting travel crates, delivery services, vet checks, etc is extremely expensive, costing thousands of dollars per dog. Ouch!
Why would I go to such trouble? These beautiful dogs are highly trained and very intelligent, and what’s more, these unique dogs are an integral part of my work with dissociative trauma survivors. They are featured in articles, in educational products, and will continue to be valuable therapeutic service animals who help people who have been severely traumatized. These dogs have a purpose. They change lives, not just my life, but they help to heal those who have been deeply wounded.
My pet sitter in Australia cannot care for these dogs any longer. Her life has been on hold this entire time, and she cannot keep restricting her own life to help take care of my dogs. Finding another pet sitter to watch 3 working dog has been impossible, so..... the sooner I can get my precious kelpies on a plane, the better life will be for everyone. I hope to fly them over in September 2021, but expenses for the Travel Company are due now.
My pet sitter needs some back-pay as well. I've paid her every month, but not enough. She has been an angel, and I really owe her more than I can ever re-pay her.
I also have to find a place in the USA to live. I will have pet deposits and a rent deposits and numerous pet expenses just getting the dogs situated again here in the USA. I don't yet have a home or a vehicle in America, so the hunt for where and how to live has begun. We have a big road in front of us, but we can do this.
Donations of any size are SO appreciated. I will be forever grateful to you, for any assistance you can offer. THANK YOU for your time and consideration.
Ever so grateful,
Kathy, Pinky, JoeJoe, and PixieStix
