I’ve decided to set this fundraiser up for my friend Reuben because there is absolutely no chance he would ever ask for this kind of help himself.

In fact, he’ll probably be mortified that I’ve done it.

You may have seen the absolutely unbelievable footage circulating in the news of two cash machines being ripped from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Peebles and loaded into a horsebox.

Well… that was Reuben’s horsebox.

You can see the news article and footage here:

Before any of this happened, Reuben’s horsebox had been stolen. It was then used, along with other stolen vehicles, in what police have described as a planned series of crimes.

Seeing something you worked hard for being used like that is difficult enough, but unfortunately the story doesn’t end with simply getting his horsebox back.

It has now been recovered, but it has been badly damaged, including having its roof cut off and because it forms part of an ongoing police investigation, Reuben has been told he could be without it for at least six months, potentially longer.

He hasn’t even been able to properly see it yet to establish the full extent of the damage. From what we already know, though, it’s clear this isn’t going to be a case of simply getting his horsebox back and carrying on as normal.

What makes this particularly gutting is that Reuben only bought the horsebox at the start of summer.

He had already spent a considerable amount of money buying it and then having work carried out to get it safe, reliable and exactly how he wanted it.

Now, through absolutely no fault of his own, that’s all been taken away.

Anyone who knows Reuben will know this wasn’t a horsebox sitting in a yard gathering dust.

He uses it a lot during the a week to get out with his pride and joy. Whether that’s out for a lesson, doing the common rides or simply loading up and heading out to enjoy our beautiful countryside.

It’s his freedom, his escape and a massive part of something he loves doing.

And suddenly he doesn’t have it.

After everything he had already spent on this box, Reuben simply isn’t in a position to go out and replace it.

He’d never ask people for money himself, which is precisely why I’ve decided to ask for him.

I’m certainly not expecting people to buy Reuben a new horsebox. I’m just hoping that if enough people can spare a couple of pounds, together we might be able to raise something towards a safe second-hand replacement and get him and his horse back on the road.

£2, £5, £10, genuinely, anything would be massively appreciated.

And if you can’t donate, please don’t feel you have to. Even sharing this page could make a huge difference.

Nobody expects to wake up and discover their horsebox has been stolen.

You definitely don’t expect to then see footage of it on the news being used to carry stolen cash machines away from a bank.

It’s one of those stories that sounds completely made up until you actually watch it.

Reuben didn’t ask for any of this, and he certainly hasn’t asked me to start this fundraiser.

But sometimes you’ve just got to let your friends help you.

Sorry Reuben.

Let’s see if we can turn something absolutely awful into something positive and get Reuben and his horse back out doing what they love.
