TLDR : My dog needs $4,000-$7,000 surgery to regain mobility & I am reaching out to the community for aid. Please consider donating if you are able. Every bit is thoroughly appreciated during this trying time.
I am hesitant - and slightly embarrassed - to ask for help during this unexpected time of need. Unfortunately, Reuben severely injured himself while playing with a doggy friend (I am housing friends who were evacuated due to Hurricane Ian).
We got a diagnosis at an emergency vet clinic (severe hip dysplasia, which is improper development of the hip socket, & a dislocated hip). Getting an FHO surgery on the dislocated side is required immediately- a procedure where the head and neck of his femur are removed in hopes of restoring mobility. In the future, he will need the same procedure on the other side. Each surgery is expected to cost $4,000-7,000.
At this time, he cannot walk without the assistance of a sling controlled by me. But, right now, Reuben is at home resting & I am doing the best I can to control his pain with the medications provided and keep him comfortable until his surgery. The soonest availability is scheduled for Monday, but I have also been calling veterinary surgery centers far & wide in hopes of a sooner surgery date.
Anyone who has met Reuben knows he is the most gentle & compassionate creature. He has been my companion for the past 4 years & I could not imagine a life where he could not walk. He deserves healing, and I will do anything I can to get it for him <3
Please consider donating - every bit counts!
Even sharing this link on your social media and with friends/family helps more than you know.
With much care and gratitude,
Kaitlyn (Reuben's momma)
